Every writer, deep down (or close to the surface), wants two things: For the world to read their work and to get paid for that work. Doing it for the love of the craft is admirable, but paying your bills with your words? That's enviable.
Minda Honeyis a local relationship advice columnist and nationally published writer in commercial and literary outlets, such as Teen Vogue, The Guardian, The Washington Post, the Oxford American, the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Billfold, and elsewhere. In less than a year, she went from paying her $100 phone bill with her first monthly column to paying all of her bills with her writing.
In this class, she'll teach you how you can get paid for your writing, whether you're looking for a side hustle or trying to go fulltime freelance.
This class will cover:
What most outlets are looking for
How to come with ideas to write about
How to find places to pitch your work
How to pitch your work to editors
How to know how much your work is worth
How to keep track of your pitches and publications
You will leave this class with a mock pitch that you can use a template for emailing real editors, a cheat sheet handout to reference when you're ready to get PAID and an Excel tracker you can use to stay organized!
Class Length: Approximately 1.5 - 2 hours long, depending on final class size
Class Materials: Please bring a form of note-taking! All the rest will be covered by Minda Honey and Level Up!
